On Solid Ground advocated for legislation at the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities

On July 16th, the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities conducted a hearing for many of On Solid Ground Priority bills including the On Solid Ground’s primary focus bill – S.31, An Act Providing For Coordinated Data And Assistance To Address Family Homelessness

The bill sponsored by Sen. Comerford increases data transparency and system alignment by directing state agencies to report on certain homelessness related measures and their current system coordination efforts to address cliff effects. The bill also makes benefit program information more accessible to families through an agency telephone hotline and website. OSG Coalition also supported other priorities that would help increase access to resources for families:

  • An Act to reduce deep poverty among kids, House Bill 102/An Act to lift children out of deep poverty, Senate Bill 36fact sheet
  • An Act providing immediate childcare assistance to homeless families, H.103S.67
  • An Act concerning public assistance for working families and the creation of a pilot program to address the impacts of the cliff effect, H.174/ S.57.

We now await for the Committee to report on the bills. Please contact the legislators on the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities and ask them to report out the bills favorably.
